In Discovering Resilience, we learn that for-profit businesses cannot have volunteers; most people that work on a farm are employees and are entitled to the worker protections that come with that status. But, can you contract with volunteers to set up a system where you can legally trade and barter for services, or get them to agree to waive certain rights like to workers’ comp?
