ATP swab testing

Hi all! I work with farmers on food safety issues and recently received an unfamiliar question from a farmer. Here’s the situation:

The farm’s liability insurance company just asked them to perform ATP swab testing in their pack shed. The farm is FSMA qualified exempt.

Here is the direct message from the insurance company:

“During the survey, it was discussed that the insured currently performs sanitization procedures on harvesting knives and hand washing, but that they do not currently perform verification procedures such as ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) swab testing on those knives/other potential food contact surfaces. Verification procedures can help validate your sanitation procedures are effective as well as to help mitigate potential contamination of food products. It is recommended that you enhance your current food safety programs to include verification procedures.”

Does anyone know if this is a reasonable request or how to push back on this request?

Any tips are appreciated!
